Embracing challenging behaviours (QA5)

Understanding challenging behaviours is a two-way learning approach that involves both the child and the adult. There are many factors that contribute to children’s behaviour and children may require different levels of support and adult intervention. A child’s behaviour is always a form of communication and responding in an appropriate way requires self-reflection and an awareness of our own and others responding tool kits. All children have a huge capacity to learn so this workshop seeks to explore and explain challenging behaviours. The objectives of this workshop are:

  • Recognise the importance of high quality relationships
  • Consider the causes and effects of a range of challenging behaviours
  • Consider the functions of behaviour
  • Address and reflect on our own values and beliefs about behaviour
  • Explore strategies for de-escalating low to high level conflict situations
